Now I fear they're going to OSRS gold cash out and leave it entirely since OSRS is doing much better with nowhere near the amount of MTX (that is deserved tbh. I enjoy spending time in here and see what is going on with the other half of the RuneScape loved ones, and it feels like that the Devs are all actual fans of this game and genuinely wish to see it improve and grow in the long run.
It's just a sucky position to observe the game like this tbh. What really hurts most of all is the prosperity of potential it has that Jagex refuses to capitalize on because the higher ups are frightened of putting money in for the (admittedly tons of) work it might require.
I recall after the past Runefest, most felt that RS3 did better than OSRS since it had bigger things on the slate. I am sure others would disagree with me, but ever since Runefest I expected 2020 to be a slow season for OSRS which has sort of been true; we got a couple decent-sized upgrades but nothing that important (if you don't count the league, which is fair).
I believe what helps OSRS so much is the frequent surveys and smaller and QoL updates. So even when not much is happening, it feels like things is still happening because there are surveys and discussions.
Despite the pushback and buy runescape mobile gold also the back-peddling, it felt like the two games did sort of transition to a growth model of a few larger updates per year.
But looking ahead to 2021 and the release plans, it seems like OSRS has broken away from this and back to the older system of a good deal of varying dimensions updates even when they do hype up the beginning of season, summer, and autumn releases.
