I’m Michelle, creator of The Mood Room. Around 40 I had an unexpected, uninvited shift in life plans (always a nice surprise). As a stay-at-home mom for the past decade, I took a long, hard look at my skills and realized I’d lost myself—the person I once was, became simply a figment of my imagination. Amid frantic paint-slinging and cries of “what in the hell am I going to do?”, It dawned on me…art! The only aspect of me that was consistently present. It was a part of my identity—even though I’d kept it tucked away like a little secret.
Then came Debby, my mom, who—being a proud mom—posted a few pieces on social, giving me the nudge (I like to say outed) I didn’t know I needed. It was a terrifying leap, but I realized that passion makes you an artist; you don’t need everyone’s approval. At the very “mature” age of… well, old enough to know better… I finally embraced the title instead of mumbling “yes, I paint” or “I’m a crafter.”
