Jing Yuan's bringing the thunder to Honkai: Star Rail, but is a 5-star unit worth getting? Here are a few items to know about him and the banner.

The other half of Honkai: Star Rail's 1.0 patch is beginning off strong using the release of Jing Yuan, among the Arbiter-Generals from the Xianzhou Luofu that has officially entered the roster like a 5-star Lightning Erudition character.

With numerous strong contenders in the present lineup as well as a wealth of upcoming Honkai: Star Rail characters, this begs the question: will Jing Yuan be worth getting? Here are a couple of items to know about this character along with the supporting units which will also be contained in his banner.

Is the Jing Yuan Banner Worth Pulling For?

Simply put, yes. In essence, Jing Yuan acts being an upgrade to Serval—both are Erudition units, although the former works better like a direct damage dealer as the latter is capable of doing tremendous synergy with Nihility characters and DoT effects. Both are great at coping with groups of enemies, but Jing Yuan provides a completely different flavor of AOE damage when compared with Belobog's resident rock star.

Even throughout the Honkai: Star Rail closed beta tests, Jing Yuan is a solid Erudition character that has plenty of harm to offer. He effectively attacks two separate times thanks to his Lightning Lord, and he can use both possibilities to break Lightning Weaknesses together with his hard-hitting moves. Jing Yuan could be especially beneficial in Memory of Chaos floors which include tons of enemies which are vulnerable to Lightning DMG.

Here's a failure of his benefits and drawbacks:

Strengths:

Strong AOE and ST damage potential

Lightning DMG is needed in many combat encounters

Synergizes with CRIT-based builds and team comps

Provides an additional "teammate" through the Lightning Lord

Effective even at E0

Weaknesses:

Somewhat Light Cone-dependent

High Energy Cost on Ultimate

ST damage was outclassed by dedicated Hunt/Nihility characters

Players who're looking for a strong Lightning DPS carry can obtain a lot of value from Jing Yuan. He can complete any vacancies in Memory of Chaos, and he can be extremely satisfying to make use of in the Simulated Universe with Elation blessings. Jing Yuan may also synergize efficiently with Harmony characters, every buff that would go to him also translates straight to the Lightning Lord's damage output. Also, his Eidolons are very powerful, but they're not needed to create a viable unit.

Like all characters, players will have to heavily purchase Jing Yuan when they want to create him competitively as possible. Min-maxing this character could get very expensive because he scales best with Light Cones which increases his follow-up attack damage, there aren't a number of these as of Honkai: Star Rail 1.0.

One thing: Jing Yuan might have good DPS against single targets, but he'll still pale compared to other Lightning damage dealers who focus on melting bosses. Players who would like an ST Lightning DPS carry may want to save for Kafka instead. Her banner is not yet been announced, but she's expected to arrive after Luocha and Silver Wolf.

Jing Yuan Banner 4-Star Characters

The featured 4 stars in every limited banner will always be worth considering. This is a problem for many players, particularly when the characters under consideration have valuable Eidolon bonuses—such may be the case using the first-ever Jing Yuan banner in Honkai: Star Rail.

Tingyun

Tingyun is among the best 4-star Support characters within the game, and it is expected that they will remain relevant well into the future patches despite other Harmony characters being freed. She works especially well with Jing Yuan due to her capability to charge the Arbiter General's Ultimate while simultaneously buffing his damage.

Also, Tingyun's Benediction skill grants one turn's price of extra Lightning DMG that scales from the targeted ally's stats. Since Jing Yuan will build for Lightning DMG boosts on his Relics and Planar Ornaments, he'll have more value using this buff.

With Eidolons unlocked, Tingyun can supply more Energy and better DMG multipliers along with giving extra SPD to her targeted ally.

March 7th

Everyone starts the sport with March 7th already around the roster. She's an effective Tank character who can keep allies safe via strong shields and Freeze effects. March can function well with Jing Yuan due to her kit alone, but she could be even better once her Eidolons are unlocked.

March's E1 and E4 bonuses both help her regenerate Energy on her Ultimate. Meanwhile, her E6 lets her heal allies which are protected by her shield. The latter is especially beneficial in hyper-carry team comps or niche techniques for Memory of Chaos and Simulated Universe. Unlocking March 7th's full potential can open an array of possibilities, and players can't go wrong when they all of her Eidolons.

Asta

As of launch, Asta may be the premier Support character for SPD-based team comps, and she will help maximize the damage creation of Jing Yuan's Lightning Lord in additional ways than one—the greater Jing Yuan attacks and also the higher his ATK stat is, the greater damage Lightning Lord is going to do.

Asta is a great unit robust, but she becomes much more useful when she reaches E2 because it allows her to keep her Charging stacks for considerably longer as long as she will keep casting her Ultimate. When coupled with her E4 and E6 bonuses, she will keep her Charging stacks almost indefinitely, giving they a massive ATK boost for the rest of the fight.

Note: You could get an honkai star rail account at a cheap price at MMOWTS to start the sport quickly.
