    Cách đây 55 năm, ngày 15/10/1964, anh Nguyễn Văn Trỗi - người con ưu tú của Quảng Nam đã anh dũng hy sinh. Tấm gương hy sinh lẫm liệt của anh đã đi vào lịch sử như một biểu tượng, một bản anh hùng ca bất diệt về khí phách hiên ngang của những thanh niên yêu nước thế kỷ 20 sẵn sàng xả thân cho phong trào đấu tranh giải phóng dân tộc và có tác động mạnh mẽ đến phong trào phản chiến của nhân dân yêu chuộng hòa bình trên toàn thế giới.

    Anh hùng liệt sĩ Nguyễn Văn Trỗi sinh ngày 1/2/1940 trong một gia đình nghèo ở Quảng Nam. Năm 1954, anh theo gia đình vào Sài Gòn và làm nghề thợ điện ở Nhà máy đèn Chợ Quán.

    Trong thời gian làm việc tại Nhà máy, anh giác ngộ cách mạng và trở thành chiến sĩ biệt động thuộc Đại đội quyết tử cánh Tây Nam Sài Gòn. Năm 1964, anh được tập huấn cách đánh biệt động nội thành ở căn cứ Rừng Thơm (tỉnh Long An). Ngày 2/5/1964, anh nhận nhiệm vụ đặt mìn tại cầu Công Lý (nay là cầu Nguyễn Văn Trỗi) để ám sát phái đoàn quân sự chính trị cao cấp của Chính phủ Hoa Kỳ do Bộ trưởng Quốc phòng Robert McNamara dẫn đầu. Công việc bại lộ, anh bị địch bắt ngày 9/5/1964. Kẻ thù dùng mọi cực hình tra tấn dã man, tàn bạo đối với anh hòng tìm ra manh mối cơ sở của ta nhưng đều bị thất bại. Sau bốn tháng giam giữ, không lay chuyển được lòng trung kiên của anh, chính quyền Ngụy Sài Gòn đã kết án tử hình anh.

    Để cứu anh, một tổ chức du kích Venezuela tuyên bố trao đổi anh với một con tin là trung tá không quân Hoa Kỳ Michael Smolen mà họ vừa bắt giữ. Tuy nhiên, sau khi viên sĩ quan Hoa Kỳ vừa được trả tự do thì chúng lật lọng, vội vàng xử bắn anh. Anh Nguyễn Văn Trỗi bị xử bắn tại sân sau nhà lao Chí Hòa lúc 9 giờ 45 phút ngày 15/10/1964.

    Trong phút cuối cùng của đời mình, anh giật phắt mảnh băng đen mà kẻ thù bịt mắt và hô to: "Hãy nhớ lấy lời tôi! Đả đảo đế quốc Mỹ! Đả đảo Nguyễn Khánh! Hồ Chí Minh muôn năm! Hồ Chí Minh muôn năm! Hồ Chí Minh muôn năm! Việt Nam muôn năm !".

    Sáng 15/4/2018, hài cốt anh Nguyễn Văn Trỗi được đưa từ nghĩa trang nhỏ của làng về an táng tại Nghĩa trang liệt sĩ TPHCM.

    TƯỞNG NIỆM 55 NĂM NGÀY MẤT CỦA ANH HÙNG LIỆT SỸ NGUYỄN VĂN TRỖI ! ------ Cách đây 55 năm, ngày 15/10/1964, anh Nguyễn Văn Trỗi - người con ưu tú của Quảng Nam đã anh dũng hy sinh. Tấm gương hy sinh lẫm liệt của anh đã đi vào lịch sử như một biểu tượng, một bản anh hùng ca bất diệt về khí phách hiên ngang của những thanh niên yêu nước thế kỷ 20 sẵn sàng xả thân cho phong trào đấu tranh giải phóng dân tộc và có tác động mạnh mẽ đến phong trào phản chiến của nhân dân yêu chuộng hòa bình trên toàn thế giới. Anh hùng liệt sĩ Nguyễn Văn Trỗi sinh ngày 1/2/1940 trong một gia đình nghèo ở Quảng Nam. Năm 1954, anh theo gia đình vào Sài Gòn và làm nghề thợ điện ở Nhà máy đèn Chợ Quán. Trong thời gian làm việc tại Nhà máy, anh giác ngộ cách mạng và trở thành chiến sĩ biệt động thuộc Đại đội quyết tử cánh Tây Nam Sài Gòn. Năm 1964, anh được tập huấn cách đánh biệt động nội thành ở căn cứ Rừng Thơm (tỉnh Long An). Ngày 2/5/1964, anh nhận nhiệm vụ đặt mìn tại cầu Công Lý (nay là cầu Nguyễn Văn Trỗi) để ám sát phái đoàn quân sự chính trị cao cấp của Chính phủ Hoa Kỳ do Bộ trưởng Quốc phòng Robert McNamara dẫn đầu. Công việc bại lộ, anh bị địch bắt ngày 9/5/1964. Kẻ thù dùng mọi cực hình tra tấn dã man, tàn bạo đối với anh hòng tìm ra manh mối cơ sở của ta nhưng đều bị thất bại. Sau bốn tháng giam giữ, không lay chuyển được lòng trung kiên của anh, chính quyền Ngụy Sài Gòn đã kết án tử hình anh. Để cứu anh, một tổ chức du kích Venezuela tuyên bố trao đổi anh với một con tin là trung tá không quân Hoa Kỳ Michael Smolen mà họ vừa bắt giữ.
