Gosh, this looks so complicated. On PSO2 Meseta the one hand, kudos for maintaining the game intact so that there will not be a riot over changes people do not like. However on the other hand, since they're remaking base PSO2 visuals anyhow, I wish they would only go 100% and synchronize personality models entirely. Giving old players a few free style items and unlocks would be sufficient to bribe everyone to take the new system.
Synchronizing 100% personality models does not sound simple. The dilemma is that the older outfits and coating use are modeled to match the older pso2 body. That is unlikely to happen. I mean that I would be willing to drop a certain percentage of these makeup to keep things intact across variations. As long as there's a steady feed of cool new stuff to replace it, I don't mind. I always rotate out my older appearances anyway. As long as the character models translate 1:1 it'll still feel like mine.
I would imagine a massive complication to that involves a lot of the cosmetics from the Western side of things that were exclusive to collaborations, promotional events, and events that no longer exist. The instance I can think of is that the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I could envision the clothing and weapons could unquestionably be given a visual upgrade together with everything else but that I don't exactly understand how the licensing or how the legal side of the collaboration functions where I'd wish it was as simple as Sega going through and updating the resources but I don't understand about how much Capcom is involved in that process.
The same is applicable to collaborations like the Final Fantasy XIV cooperation with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I don't understand how much of Square Enix is involved in that for Sega to be able to update assets . When it was purely just Phantasy Star-related items (such as character outfits, cameos from other games, or other Sega-related properties) I could imagine this probably would have been done, or would be carried out. But in the worldwide variant we already don't have the existence of Cougar NX so I don't know if there are additional complications regarding Sega's properties that might also contribute to not updating everything they can within reason.
I can envision that probably out there we'll still see someone wearing those older collaboration things even when they are not awakened to the same standards as new cosmetics in a similar way and that there would have been outrage if it had been made obsolete or unusable. Collabs that have had their cosmetics removed nevertheless have their assets exist on cheap Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta the sport so those will likely still be accessible for jp players.
