Gosh, this seems so complicated. On PSO2 Meseta the 1 hand, kudos for keeping the original game intact so that there will not be a riot over changes people don't like. But on the flip side, since they are remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they'd just go 100 percent and synchronize personality models entirely.
Synchronizing 100% personality models doesn't seem easy. The dilemma is that the old outfits and coating use are modeled to fit the old pso2 body. In order to synchronize it, they would have to recreate from scratch (haha pun) 8 years of cosmetics. That's unlikely to happen. Well, I mean that I would be ready to shed a certain percentage of those cosmetics to keep things intact across versions. Provided that there's a steady feed of cool new things to replace it, I don't mind. I always rotate out my old appearances anyway. As long as the character versions translate 1:1 it'll still feel just like mine.
The example I can think of is that the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I can envision the clothes and weapons could definitely be given a visual upgrade together with everything else but that I do not exactly understand how the licensing or the way the lawful side of this collaboration works where I would wish it had been as simple as Sega going through and updating the resources but I don't understand about just how much of Capcom is involved in that process.
The same applies to collaborations like the Final Fantasy XIV cooperation with Odin (which exists as far as I know) where I do not understand how much of Square Enix is involved that for Sega to be able to upgrade assets . When it was only just Phantasy Star-related items (such as character outfits, cameos from different games, or other Sega-related possessions ) I could imagine this probably would have been achieved, or at least would be carried out. But in the Global variant we don't have the presence of Cougar NX therefore that I don't exactly know if there are additional complications seeing Sega's properties that might also contribute not to updating everything they can within reason.
I can envision that likely out there we'll still see somebody wearing those older collaboration items even when they are not awakened to the same standards as fresh cosmetics in a similar manner and that there would have been outrage if it was made obsolete or unusable. Collabs who have experienced their makeup removed still have their resources exist on the game so those will probably still be available for jp players.
Only improvements we will probably see is the new engine enhancing shadows, reflections, colors, particle effects and projecting them from the outfits. You may have a look how exactly implementing better shadows and colors can improve old equipment by assessing ReShade screenshots.
